Frequently Asked Questions

We currently offer Cupping Therapy services, mainly Hijama Wet Cupping as well as Myofascial Cupping, Cupping Massage and Traditional Cupping.

We will soon be adding Functional Nutrition and Nutritional Coaching programs to help our clients to further eliminate unwanted symptoms and live healthier and more productive lives.

Hijama Wet Cupping is an ancient form of Alternative Medicine. It has been used for thousands of years to encourage and maintain good health.

Cups are placed on specific areas of the body such as trigger points, areas of adhesion or acupressure points and suction is then applied to encourage the pulling of the skin, fascia, muscles, as well as the blood flow just under the skin. This will cause an accumulation of blood to gather under the cup, and create the red/purplish color.

Once the cup is removed, small and tiny scratches are made on the skin. The cups are then placed back on the same spots. This will cause further suction and the old, unhealthy blood is extracted allowing healthy and nutrient filled blood to flow properly through the body.

Preparations to be made BEFORE Hijama (Wet Cupping) Therapy include:

  • It is best to have Hijama performed early in the day before eating breakfast or to fast for at least 3-4 hours before the session begins.
  • It is a good idea to be hydrated and therefore, drinking plenty of water is recommended.
  • It is best to take a shower before the treatment begins to encourage blood circulation.
  • If one has a lot of body hair, and it impedes the ability to proceed with cupping, it is best to remove it before your scheduled session as it will help to provide a better suction for the treatment.
  • Avoid marital relationships or any exhausting activity at least 12 hours before the treatment and for 24 hours after.
  • Comfortable and loose clothing should be worn to the treatment.
  • Clients should make their intention that the purpose of the treatment is for their betterment. Health and wellness is a blessing and we should search for ways to attain and maintain it holistically (spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally).

NOTE: During the session, clients will either lay down on a table or sit on a chair, depending on their presenting condition, comfort level and ease of treatment. There are generally six (6) steps to be taken to perform Hijama Wet Cupping Therapy. They are listed below:

  1. Area to be cupped will be located and assessed.
  2. Area will be sterilized with hydrogen peroxide and natural essential oil such as olive and/or black seed oils, etc.
  3. Cups will be placed on specified areas and a negative pressure (suction) will be introduced to allow the skin to be “sucked” into the cup (typically for 4-5 minutes).
  4. Cups will be removed. Small superficial scratches will gently be made to the skin by a sterilized medical grade scalpel.
  5. Cups will again be placed on those specified areas. The negative pressure (suction) created will extract the toxic blood (cellular waste, debris) into the cup.
  6. Cups will be removed, the area will again be cleaned and sterilized with hydrogen peroxide and a natural essential oil. (Cups and medical grade scalpel will be disposed of appropriately after each client).

The duration of the treatment should generally take 1 hour to complete.

Preparations to be made AFTER Hijama (Wet Cupping) Therapy include:

  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water in order to replenish your system. Other drinks such as natural and organic fruit juices or raw, organic honey mixed with water can be consumed.
  • Clients can resume eating in moderation, one (1) hour after treatment has completed. It is recommended to have a light meal. Meat and dairy should be minimized as much as possible for that day so as to not put extra pressure on the digestive system.
  • Shower with warm water, 24 hours after treatment but please refrain from scrubbing cupped areas or using any soaps or shampoos.
  • In the next few days, one may experience slight itching on the areas that were cupped, please refrain from scratching as scarring or infection may occur. It is recommended to apply natural oils such as coconut oil as this will help minimize itching.
  • Clients should stay slightly active in the next few hours and avoid sleeping. It is good to take a walk, etc. However, it is recommended to sleep earlier that night to help the body recover faster.
  • If bandage is needed, please change daily until the wound has completely healed.
  • Avoid medicating symptoms like shivering, nausea or if feeling a little feverish. They are part of the healing crisis.
They are temporary and will go away.

NOTE: Follow up appointments can either be made directly with the Therapist after the treatment or by contacting our office.
